5 months
Mark is 5 months old today. I can't believe how quickly the time as flown by. Mark is still so sweet and agreeable and is now becoming a lot more active too. He loves playing with toys and has started crying when Emily takes them away or tries to play with the same toy at the same time. I will have to start breaking up fights any day now. Mark really likes being upright and has also started reaching out and pulling his knees under when he is on his belly and trying to get to a toy. He loves watching Emily play and prefers that over almost anything else. He is still eating one tablespoon of rice cereal a day and I think we will try to do it twice a day this coming month before starting other solids at 6 months.
Mark really enjoys sitting in his high chair during Emily's meal times and his new favorite game is dropping a toy off the chair for me to pick up. Emily then laughs and informs me "he dropped it again. Get it", then I get it, then Mark smiles. The American Academy of Pediatrics lists the game of dropping and retrieving as important for learning cause and effect as well as 'object permanence' (understanding the object still exists even when it is out of sight). So I try not to get too frustrated, although Emily has already learned these lessons and is just laughing at me because I'm doing what she told me to do.
Mark has not let out any belly laughs since the initial one. And that makes me laugh because obviously he just doesn't think I'm funny. That is ok though, I won't let that stop me from acting like a fool.
I tried to give Mark some cereal but Emily started singing into her microphone and that was a lot more interesting.
