Mark - 6 (almost 7) months
[password-protect]We had Mark's '6 month' appointment today. He will be 7 months in 6 days so it's really a 6ish month update. Everything went well at the appointment. We were there 2&1/2 hours ( ahhhhh! ) not fun with two small kids, but Mark checked out and looks great. Emily stood up for Mark while he was getting his vaccines. The nurse was giving Mark his shots (and naturally he was screaming) and Emily kept waving her arms in the air and yelling at the nurse, "stop that, stop that. He doesn't like it!". I had my eyes and one arm on Mark but had to pat Emily's back with the other arm during the shots because she was very upset by it too. I thought that was kind of sweet.
Mark is now 16 lbs, 9 ozs and 27&1/4 inches long. He has two teeth and loves to show them off with a big smile. I am still nursing and that is going really well. Mark loves solid foods too. We started him on rice cereal mixed with my milk at 4 months to get him used to solids and then started vegetables and fruits at 6 months. So far he likes just about everything and even grabs the spoon out of my hand to shove it into his mouth. He eats sweet potato, green peas, green beans, carrots, squash, avocado, apples, bananas and pears and also likes rice cereal and oatmeal mixed with milk. He loves mum mums - little rice crackers. I can give him one of the crackers and he will stay independently happy the whole time I get dinner ready. It is awesome! He is eating a mum mum in the pic below.
Mark sits up with ease now and rolls all around to get where he wants to go. He has started babbling more and shouting to get my attention. It took me by surprise at first because I thought it was Emily, but he figured out how to be heard over Emily with a loud shout when he wants something. He is also imitating sounds and is particularly good at repeating back a clicking sound. Kind of random, but cute. He is still not starting to creep or crawl. I've been working on it with him by placing toys just out of reach and I think he will get the hang of it pretty soon. But we have to work on it when Emily is napping because she just grabs the toy and gives it to him whenever he reaches. Of course that only applies if he is reaching for a toy that she doesn't want. They have just recently started fighting over toys - especially while in the shopping cart or stroller. Mark is very good at grabbing Emily's toys, drink or snack. I know it is just the beginning of that ordeal. It is crazy how upset kids get about sharing!
I really look forward to the little boy that Mark will soon become, but I can't help but hold on tight to this sweet baby stage. Mark is my sweet little angel. A mother and daughter bond is very special, but there is something extra sweet about a mother and her son. I love you Mark!
