Emily is turning 2 this month and the terrible twos have arrived. I thought she had entered the terrible twos about 4 months ago but now I know that she was just getting warmed up. Emily has started shoving raisins up her nose. It's her favorite snack and often the only thing she will eat besides fresh fruit so its essential when we are out. But she discovered this weekend that she can shove them up her nose and get all kinds of attention. I try not to make a big fuss but she gets it WAY up there (to the point where you cant see it) and I'm worried it might do some damage so I have no choice but to reward her with attention. I decided today that I obviously just need to stop giving her raisins but I'm sure it's only a matter of time before she finds something else to use. Emily has also started removing her diaper as soon as I put one on her. I have to put the diaper on and then pull up her pants as quickly as possible and divert attention to make any progress. But before I can pull up her pants she pulls one tab off her diaper and starts pulling it down. Then I put the tab back and as I do that she pulls the other tab off - and back and forth until I lose my mind. To make matters even more frustrating, Mark needs lots of sleep but is a very light sleeper. I have a door knob cover that keeps Emily from opening the door to the back of the house. My only chance of getting Mark to sleep is locking Emily in the front of the house while I soothe mark in back. I was trying desperately to put Mark down today. Mark had not fallen asleep yet but I knew I was pushing the limit of Emily's independent play time. I found her at the coffee table. She must have grabbed the banana by pushing the chair up to the kitchen counter. She then somehow pealed the banana, mashed it up and smeared it all over the coffee table. Dirty table, messy toddler and crying infant. Perfect. Later in the afternoon Emily gathered the pacifiers and washed them in Mella's water bowl. She told me they were dirty and needed to be washed. I was dealing with Mark and trying to make dinner so I didn't notice until the pacifiers were fully emerged. The hardest part about all the antics is knowing that she really just wants me to play with her and gets restless when I don't. I wish I could give both Emily and Mark undivided attention all the time, but if I did then Emily would never get the chance to do things like steal bananas and smear them on the coffee table. And then Ben and I wouldn't have nearly as much to laugh about.
